Get rid of the Gemini annoyance in Google Docs
Artificial intelligence tools have become an integral part of Google services, but not all users want them visible while they work.
If you open a document in Google Docs and find yourself faced with a window prompting you to "Write with Gemini," there are easy ways to hide these features and return to a simpler, more focused writing experience.
The fastest way to hide Gemini in Google Docs
If what bothers you is the Gemini box that appears at the bottom of the document, you can disable it directly from within Google Docs by following these steps:
- 1. Click the Gemini option in the menu bar at the top of the document.
- 2. From the drop-down menu, select Bottom Bar Preferences.
- 3. Turn off the Gemini bottom bar to remove the AI widget from your workspace.
While this method removes the window at the bottom of the page, it doesn't disable all AI features that Google might add to your documents.

Turning off AI features more broadly
Some users report the appearance of other tools, such as the "Help Me Write" feature, which appears near the writing cursor and suggests text as they work.
To disable these features more completely, you can turn off what Google calls "smart features" in your Gmail settings.
Steps:
- 1. Open your Gmail email.
- 2. Click the Settings icon at the top of the page.
- 3. Select See all settings.
- 4. Scroll to the middle of the page until you reach the Google Workspace Smart Features section.
- 5. Click Manage Workspace Smart Feature Settings.
- 6. You will see options for controlling smart features within Google Workspace services.
- 7. Turn off the Smart Features in Google Workspace option to disable Gemini-related features in Google Docs and other Workspace applications.
The page also provides a second option to disable other smart features, such as automatically creating calendar events from emails related to trips or appointments. You can also turn this off if you prefer full manual control.

A calmer writing experience
After following these steps, most of the AI-powered windows and suggestions within Google Docs will diminish, giving you a quieter and more focused workspace.
While Google continues to integrate Gemini into its various services, the company still allows users to minimize or disable many of these features according to their preferences.
