Recent leaks have revealed details of the first version of the One UI 8.5 update, which was leaked last September and is expected to power the upcoming Galaxy S26 phones.
The One UI 8.5 update brings a wide range of new improvements, most notably enhanced power management, support for Auracast wireless streaming, and advanced security features for better user protection. The update also includes a time zone calculator and an improved weather widget with accurate rain alerts.
On the smart side, Galaxy AI has seen significant improvements. Photo Assist now allows for AI-generated images without the need to save each copy, while Bixby is now smarter for controlling the device, answering questions, and reviewing past conversations.
In terms of connectivity, the update makes file sharing between different Galaxy devices easier and supports Smart View for screen mirroring on TVs and other Samsung devices. Quick Share has also been improved to automatically suggest sharing photos with people featured in them.
The update also includes new customizations for the lock screen and home screen, an improved weather widget to display pollen levels, and new alarm settings with weather-changing backgrounds. In the Samsung Health app, features such as comprehensive weekly reports, exercise sharing, the ability to start meditations directly from the watch, and antioxidant measurement have been introduced.
In terms of security, One UI 8.5 offers anti-theft protection with automatic locking after failed attempts, along with temporary options to disable the Auto Blocker. The battery information screen and power-saving mode have also been updated and are now fully customizable. Bluetooth hearing aid controls have been improved, with support for screen zoom using the mouse or keyboard.
The update adds practical features such as screen recording, customizable quick shortcuts, early reminder alerts, and saving app window sizes in DeX mode upon reopening.
