With the official release of the first Android 17 beta on February 13, 2026, the tech world's focus has shifted to Samsung's next major move: One UI 9. While we're still finalizing the One UI 8.5 rollout, Samsung's internal testing servers are already showing early beta versions of its new software.
Here's what to expect from the One UI 9 release.
When will the One UI 9 user interface be released?
We expect One UI 9 to officially launch around July 2026, likely coinciding with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8.
However, if you own a recent flagship phone like the S26 Ultra or S25 series, you won't have to wait until July to experience the system. Rumors suggest a public beta will begin in May 2026. This will give users the opportunity to test new Android 17 features before the final release.
Eligibility checklist: Is your Galaxy device safe?
The most pressing question is always, "Will my phone get the update?" While Samsung hasn't released an "official" list yet, its promise of seven years of updates makes it clear.
The upcoming Galaxy S26 series will be the first to test the One UI 9 beta in May. Joining them in this group are the Galaxy S25 and S24 series, which are undergoing Samsung's internal testing for Android 17.
The same logic applies to foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 are currently being used in internal One UI 9 "Now Nudge" testing, and the upcoming Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 (along with the rumored "Wide Fold") are likely to launch with the system pre-installed in July.

As for the A series, the situation is less clear, but it still looks promising for the newer models. The Galaxy A56 and A36 are expected to remain on the list of phones receiving updates, and they are likely to receive stable updates by the end of 2026. Premium tablets, specifically the Galaxy Tab S10 and S11 series, are now on the same high-priority support path as the S series phones, making them a guaranteed choice for the One UI 9 update.
It might be surprising to see the Galaxy S23 series. Technically, the oldest active flagship phone will receive the One UI 9 update as its fourth and final major OS update. If you're still using the S23, you likely have a full year of significant updates left.
Now, here's the bad news. As of early February 2026, Samsung has officially moved the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Z Fold 4 to a quarterly security update schedule. These devices, along with the S21 FE and A53, are expected to stop receiving the One UI 8.5 update.
If your device is on this list, it won't stop working, but you'll miss out on the new AI-powered "Ask AI" browser tools and system-wide screen resizing features that Android 17 offers. If you're looking for a reason to replace your S26 this month, this could be it.

Samsung hasn't yet confirmed whether these older models will receive a beta version of Android 17, so keep an eye on the Samsung Members app for the official plan later this spring.
Important note:
This is not an official confirmation from Samsung regarding device eligibility for the One UI 9 update. Samsung has not yet released a list of eligible devices for this specific update, which will not be published until February 2026.
Eligibility depends on the number of major OS releases remaining in each device's promised update cycle, regional variations, carrier participation, and Samsung's final decisions. Policies may change, and some features (especially advanced Galaxy AI features) may be limited to newer devices.
Always wait for an official Samsung announcement and check the website, news section, or Samsung Members app for the confirmed list as soon as it is released. Do not rely on this information alone for any purchase or upgrade.
