Apple and Google collaborated to make it easier for users to switch between their operating systems without fear of data loss, whether it's photos stored in cloud storage or on their phones, or even messages and phone numbers.

The fruits of this collaboration are evident in the recent updates that have reached all Android and iPhone devices. Each system now offers an option that allows you to switch from one operating system to the other without data loss.

These updates resolve one of the biggest obstacles that prevented users from switching between the two systems. Previously, it required purchasing third-party applications and using numerous unofficial and manual methods to switch.

Users typically lost some data, such as WhatsApp messages, photos, and phone numbers, but this has changed with the new updates.

The new feature launched by the two companies works well, according to our experience at Al Jazeera Net. We tested it by switching from an iPhone to a Samsung phone without losing any data.

More than one way to move

There are several ways to enable the transfer feature from iPhones to Samsung Galaxy phones, specifically since our test involved a Samsung device. However, all Android phones with the latest system updates support this feature.

No special equipment or apps are required on either phone. Simply go to your iPhone, then to Settings, then Factory Reset, then Switch to Android, and the phone will begin preparing the data to be transferred.

You can also start preparing your Samsung phone. You will see a message on the welcome screen informing you that you can transfer your data from other Android phones or your Apple phone.

The phone will then ask you if you want to download your old phone's data from iCloud backups or connect it via a cable to transfer the data directly. In the latter case, you should select the Switch to Android option on your iPhone.

However, if you choose to transfer data using iCloud, your phone will ask you to enter your iCloud account information. Then, select the type of data you want to transfer and wait a few minutes for the transfer to complete.

Both phones must be connected to each other, either via cable or the same Wi-Fi network, for the transfer to proceed smoothly.

Once the data transfer is complete, you'll find all your data from your previous phone on your new phone, easily and conveniently, without any further intervention.

Transferring WhatsApp messages

The process is similar when trying to transfer WhatsApp messages between an old iPhone and a new Android phone. All you need to do is go to the app's settings on your old phone, then select Data and Backup, and then choose Transfer Messages to Android.

Data transfer is done by connecting the two phones together using a cable or via Wi-Fi.

A screen will appear asking you to scan a code displayed on your new Android phone. Next, go to your new Android phone and start setting up WhatsApp by entering and confirming your phone number. A code will then appear, which you must scan with your old phone. Once you scan the code with your old phone, the transfer process will begin automatically without any further action required from you.

data that cannot be transferred

This method works perfectly with most data stored on iPhones, but some data cannot be directly transferred from iPhone to Android this way. These include apps, app login credentials, banking information, and passwords.

Generally, you cannot transfer apps or login credentials this way; you need to transfer them manually.

Passwords can be easily transferred to any other password manager app directly from your phone, but you must first install the new password manager app on your phone.

Transferring passwords to Android

There are many password management options on Android phones, such as the popular Samsung Pass app or even Google's built-in password manager.

You can use any of these apps as you prefer. In our case, we chose the open-source Bitwarden password manager.

To transfer your passwords, you need to open the Passwords app on your iPhone, select all your passwords, tap the three dots, and choose "Transfer Passwords to Another App."

Next, you'll be asked to select the passwords you want to transfer again. Tap "Continue," and a message will appear explaining what happens next. You must then choose the app you want to share the passwords with.

All the available password managers on your phone will be listed in the options. In our case, we had the option to use Bitwarden or the built-in Chrome password manager.

Choose the app you want and follow the steps within that app to transfer all your passwords and keys.
