Chinese tech giant Huawei unveiled its new flagship Pura 90 series of camera-focused smartphones on Monday at an event in China.

The launch primarily focused on the Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max, the successors to last year's Pura 80 Pro.

However, a successor to the Pura 80 Ultra was notably absent from the lineup, and Huawei has yet to release any information regarding its availability, according to a report by tech news site Android Authority, which was reviewed by Mobi Alo.

Pura 90 Pro Max

The most notable changes in these phones lie in the cameras. The top-of-the-line Pura 90 Pro Max comes equipped with a 200MP telephoto lens with a 1/1.28-inch sensor.

This is an improvement over the 50MP telephoto lens with 10x zoom in last year's Ultra model. However, the zoom level has been reduced to just 4x, suggesting the possibility of an Ultra version being released later.

Huawei stated that this is the world's first 200MP RYYB (red-yellow-yellow-blue) sensor.

The company has been using this type of sensor instead of traditional RGB sensors for several years, as it captures more light, resulting in higher levels of detail in low-light conditions.

The telephoto lens performance here is expected to be similar to that of other devices with 200MP telephoto lenses, such as the OPPO Find X9 Pro, OPPO Find X9 Ultra, Vivo X300 Pro, and Vivo X300 Ultra.

Huawei indicated that this sensor can be used to capture RAW images—images with their original, unprocessed data—at 200MP resolution, as well as to record videos with near-optical quality at up to 20x zoom.

The Pura 90 Pro Max features a 50MP main sensor that also supports LOFIC HDR technology, similar to the Xiaomi Mi 17 Ultra. This technology enhances contrast and ensures balanced lighting across the frame, especially in low-light conditions. The phone also includes a 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera.

The Pura 90 Pro Max also supports a detachable secondary camera lens, providing an additional 3.3x optical zoom to further enhance the phone's zoom capabilities. Huawei claims it can capture virtually flawless images at a zoom level of up to about 27x.

Pura 90 Pro

The Pura 90 Pro also comes with a triple-camera setup, but instead of a 200MP telephoto lens, it only has a 50MP sensor with 4x optical zoom.

Both the Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max share the same internal hardware, including a Kirin 9030S processor and up to 16GB of RAM.

Both phones run HarmonyOS 6.1, and their interface closely resembles the "Liquid Glass" interface of iOS 26.

The Pura 90 Pro features a 6.6-inch LTPO AMOLED display with curved edges and corners, while the Pro Max boasts a larger 6.9-inch screen with similar features.

Both phones pack a massive 6,000mAh battery, providing long-lasting power for hours of video playback and web browsing.

The company equips the Pura 90 Pro Max with a 100W SuperCharge charger. In addition, both phones support 80W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Furthermore, these flagship phones can wirelessly charge other devices at 18W using a USB cable. The Pura 90 Pro also comes with a 66W wired charger.
