Reports indicate that Samsung Electronics will equip its upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro (tentative name), slated for release in the first half of next year, with a 6.47-inch OLED display. This has generated significant market interest, as it represents a first for Samsung's flagship phones.

According to reports published on the 20th of this month, Samsung Electronics plans to equip the new Galaxy S27 series model with a 6.47-inch OLED display next year.

An informed source stated, "The Galaxy S27 series for next year is being prepared with four models, and these new models are expected to feature a 6.47-inch display, a size Samsung Electronics has never used before."

Samsung Electronics intends to expand its flagship smartphone lineup from its current three-model system (Standard, Plus, and Ultra) since the launch of the Galaxy S20 series in 2020 to a four-model system starting in 2027 with the addition of a new model.

This new model is expected to be the "Pro" version, sharing most of the specifications with the higher-end Ultra model, but without the S Pen input feature. (See page 1 of the April 7, 2026 issue of this newspaper.)

The 6.47-inch screen is a first for the Galaxy S series. The Galaxy S26 series consists of a standard model with a 6.27-inch screen, a Plus model with a 6.66-inch screen, and an Ultra model with a 6.89-inch screen. The Galaxy S25 Edge, a slim model released last year, had a 6.56-inch screen.

At the time, the Edge was developed to replace the existing Plus model with a thinner smartphone, starting with the S26 series. However, due to weak market demand, plans to release the Edge were abandoned, and the Plus was developed and released instead.

Analysis suggests that Samsung Electronics intends to bolster its lineup with a new flagship product in the S27 series that differs from the current models,

starting with its screen size. This appears to be a targeted approach to the market, using a differentiation strategy aimed at expanding consumer choice. Furthermore, it can be interpreted as a response to the adoption of a system similar to Apple's four-model model. Apple categorizes its iPhone lineup into standard (Standard and Air) and premium (Pro and Pro Max) models. Last year's iPhone 17 series increased the screen size of the standard model by approximately 0.2 inches, bringing the standard model to 6.26 inches, the Air model to 6.55 inches, the Pro model to 6.26 inches, and the Pro Max model to 6.86 inches.

Samsung Electronics has demonstrated a pattern of launching its Galaxy S series at the beginning of the year and its foldable phones, such as the Fold and Flip, in the second half. Despite continuous performance improvements, there have been no significant design changes, such as screen size, leaving consumers unable to clearly distinguish between the two and resulting in stagnant demand.

The focus now is on whether introducing a different model from the current models will cause a change in the stable demand for smartphones.
