Samsung has begun rolling out its One UI 8.5 update to a range of older Galaxy phones and devices, bringing with it new AI features that first appeared with the Galaxy S26 series in early 2026.

The update began in South Korea and will gradually reach other global markets depending on the device model and region.

Devices eligible for the update

The update includes the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy S25 FE, as well as the Galaxy S24 series and the S24 FE, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6.

The update also reaches the Galaxy Tab S11 and Galaxy Tab S10 tablets, according to a report published by Digital Trends and reviewed by Mobi Alo.

New AI advantages

One UI 8.5 adds a suite of new AI tools not available in the previous One UI 8.0 version, most notably the “AI Call Screening” feature. This feature can answer unknown calls on behalf of the user, ask the caller why they are calling, and display a live transcript of the conversation so the user can decide whether to answer or not.

The update also introduces a feature that converts voicemails to text in real time while recording, allowing users to read the message content as soon as it arrives.

In terms of productivity, Samsung has added a new keyboard feature called “Now Nudge.” This feature suggests calendar appointments or information and actions related to the current conversation, eliminating the need to switch between apps.

The Bixby voice assistant has also received more advanced capabilities. It can now perform multi-step tasks across apps, such as finding a specific image and emailing it to a particular contact.

Edit images using text commands

The update also brings new AI-powered photo editing tools through the Creative Studio app and the Text-to-Edit Photo Assist feature, which allows users to edit photos by typing simple text commands, such as changing the background or adding new elements to the image.

Samsung is also adding the Object Transfer feature, which allows users to move people or objects from one photo to another directly within the gallery.

More screen customization

On the personalization side, the update introduces the “AI Weather Effects” feature, which adds animated effects to the lock screen that change according to local weather conditions, such as rain or snow.

Samsung confirmed that the availability of some features may vary depending on the country, device type, or market.
