Vivo is back in the ultraphone competition with its new X300 Ultra, trying to retain its title of "best camera phone" against the previous generation X200 Ultra, but the most important question is: Are the new improvements enough to justify the upgrade?
35mm main camera
The X300 Ultra retains its 35mm main lens, an uncommon choice in the smartphone world, but one favored by photographers for its balanced approach between wide-angle and telephoto.
The phone utilizes a 200MP Sony sensor with a relatively smaller aperture, but with noticeable improvements in image stabilization.
The result is sharper images, more realistic colors, and less harsh processing compared to the previous generation, according to a report by Gizmochina, reviewed by Mobi Alo.
In good lighting, the X300 Ultra shows a slight edge in detail and color balance, while the difference becomes more pronounced in low-light conditions, especially with the white balance improvements achieved through the multispectral sensor.
However, in near-zero light, the X300 Ultra still maintains a slight advantage in detail.
The “Raw Lighting” setting is closer to that of professional cameras

One of the most notable additions to the X300 Ultra is the “Raw Lighting” feature, which reduces digital image processing, resulting in more professional-grade saturation and detail smoothing.
This feature is also available to X200 Ultra owners via a software update, making it more of a software enhancement than a hardware upgrade.
85mm lens
The 85mm telephoto camera has seen improvements in stabilization, but these only make a significant difference at high zoom levels and in low light.
The result: A real upgrade, but with limited impact in everyday use.
14mm wide lens
The wide-angle lens remained unchanged, with only minor differences in HDR processing between the two phones, neither offering a clear advantage.
In video recording, it's practically impossible to distinguish between the two phones, even in close reviews.
Improvements in stabilization didn't noticeably alter the shooting experience, making the difference almost negligible compared to the previous generation.
Performance and Design
The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen5 processor, ensuring strong performance, but with some thermal limitations due to the large camera module.
In terms of design, the changes are so subtle that the X200 Ultra cases could easily fit the X300 Ultra, with only minor differences in thickness and weight.
Battery and screen
Despite the increased battery capacity, the actual improvement in everyday use is limited.
As for the screen, it's almost identical to the previous generation with minor changes to brightness and display experience.
Vivo X300 Ultra review result
The X300 Ultra offers noticeable improvements to the main camera and some aspects of night photography, but it doesn't deliver a radical, game-changing innovation.
Therefore, the phone feels more like an enhanced version of the X200 Ultra than a completely new generation, making the decision to upgrade dependent solely on the user's need for improved photography capabilities, rather than a complete overhaul of the experience.
