WhatsApp is now testing the View-Once disappearing messages feature on iOS
WhatsApp began testing its disappearing messages feature on Android last month, and now we know it's being tested on iOS as well.
This discovery comes from WABetaInfo, who spotted the feature in WhatsApp beta version 26.19.10.72 for iOS.
The feature can be activated via the "After Read" option in the default Message Timer menu > Message Timer. On iOS, this feature allows the sender to set a countdown timer of 5 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours. After this time, the message (or messages) will automatically disappear if the recipient reads them. If the message isn't read, it will automatically disappear after 24 hours.
On the sender's device, the message is automatically deleted after the specified time elapses. For example, if you send a message at 10:00 AM with the "After Read" timer set to 5 minutes, it will automatically disappear from your device at 10:05 AM.
From the recipient's perspective, if the message is read at 10:10 AM, it will automatically disappear at 10:15 AM. If the message remains unread, it will be automatically deleted from their device at 10:00 AM the following day.
WABetaInfo reported that this feature is available to some beta users of WhatsApp on iOS, but it's still unclear when WhatsApp will officially release it to Android and iOS users.
