Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor a few weeks ago, making it the second most powerful chip of the new generation, just behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. To determine its real-world performance, the processor was tested inside the OnePlus Ace 6T to measure its true capabilities in data processing and graphics.
Tests conducted by the Novice Evaluation platform revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5's CPU performance is very close to that of the Elite chip.
On Geekbench 6, the processor scored:
2957 points for single-core processing
10236 points for multi-core processing
While the Elite version achieved approximately 3256 and 10358 points, respectively.
However, when it comes to GPU performance, a clear gap emerges between the two processors. In the 3DMark Steel Nomad Light test, the Gen 5 scored 2088 points compared to 2550 points for the Elite processor.
In the WildLife Extreme benchmark, the new generation scored 5681 points, while the Elite chip reached 7156 points, representing a nearly 20% graphical advantage for the higher-performing version.
Furthermore, Geekbench OpenCL tests showed a score of 17217 for the Gen 5 processor, compared to 18287 points for the OnePlus 15 equipped with the Elite chip.
These results seem logical, as the processor uses the Adreno 829 GPU, a less powerful version of the Adreno 840 found in the Elite chip, which explains the noticeable difference in graphics processing.
