This is undoubtedly an interesting development, but for some reason, Samsung has already released the May Android security patches for the Galaxy A55 and is now rolling them out for the Galaxy A54. Meanwhile, my own phone, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, is still running the April 5th security patch as of this writing.

We checked the update's changelog out of curiosity. Perhaps there was something more relevant to the mid-range Galaxy A5x series? Apparently not.

The May security patches address two critical vulnerabilities: one related to elevation of privilege (EoP) in the Android kernel, and the other to remote code execution (RCE) in Android's ADB wireless debugging interface. These are widespread issues and could affect almost any device. In addition, the update addresses 28 critical and 6 moderately critical vulnerabilities. For context, that's not a huge number of bugs.

The Galaxy A54 update carries build number A546EXXSJEZE5 and is relatively small (approximately 286.79 MB). Current reports indicate that the update has been gradually rolling out to some Asian and Middle Eastern countries so far, notably India and Saudi Arabia, which were among the first to receive it.
