Google has officially released the final version of Android 17 and Wear OS 7 for smartwatches, with the company heavily relying on artificial intelligence as a key element in the user experience across its phones and wearable devices.
The update is rolling out first to Google's Pixel phones, accompanied by the Pixel Drop package, which adds a host of new features. These include support for the latest AI models, such as the Lyria 3 music generation model and the Gemini Omni multimedia model, as well as real-time voice translation tools.
This move is part of Google's strategy to use Android and Pixel devices as a platform to showcase its latest AI innovations, while Apple continues to develop its capabilities in this field with upcoming updates to its Siri voice assistant and iOS 27.
Among the most notable new features is the integration of Quick Share with Apple's AirDrop feature on some older Pixel phones, enabling easier file sharing between the two systems.
Gemini Omni allows users to edit videos directly within conversations, while the Lyria 3 model can create music tracks based on text commands or images within the Gemini app.

The updates also included new practical features for phones, such as the ability to record a personalized voice message for callers when calls go unanswered, as well as expanding the availability of the "Leave a Message" feature to more global markets.
In terms of safety, the Google Pixel Watch gained new emergency detection features, enabling it to automatically contact emergency services and pre-selected contacts if it detects a car accident, a fall, or a cardiac arrest.
As for user experience, Android 17 introduced a new interface called "Bubbles," which allows users to organize and quickly access recently used apps via bubbles that appear at the bottom of the screen, enhancing multitasking and app switching.
The update also targeted content creators on social media platforms with a feature that allows simultaneous screen and front-facing camera recording, making it easier to produce interactive videos and tutorials for platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.
Parental controls and security features have seen further improvements, including a "Mark Lost" feature within the Find My Device service, as well as an advanced threat detection system and tools for content filtering and screen time limits without requiring a Google account link.
The company also launched a new gaming mode for foldable phones, based on a 50/50 split-screen interface with a dynamic dashboard, aiming to enhance the gaming experience across this category of devices.

Meanwhile, smartwatches running WearOS 7 will benefit from new updates, including receiving live updates from phone apps and improved integration with smart glasses and other wearable devices that Google plans to release in the future.
Google confirmed that the system will receive more Gemini features this summer, such as creating custom widgets via text commands, in addition to a "Personal Intelligence" feature that allows artificial intelligence to leverage Google apps and conversation history to provide more personalized suggestions.
The company indicated that WearOS 7 will bring improvements in battery life of up to 10%, as well as support for multi-step automation processes, giving users a more efficient and flexible experience across smartwatches.
