Facebook and Instagram Back Online as Meta Resolves Brief Service Outage

Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta Inc., gradually returned to service after experiencing outages for users worldwide earlier on Friday.

Meta did not immediately explain the cause of the Facebook and Instagram outage, and the company does not maintain an official status page for its consumer products to provide updates on service status and outages.

However, company spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X before the platforms were back online: "We are aware that users are currently having difficulty accessing our services. We are working to resolve this issue," according to Reuters.

The outage caused users to be automatically logged out, feed updates stopped, and Messenger and Direct Messages functionality disappeared.

Earlier, Facebook users reported being automatically logged out and unable to log back in, receiving an error message stating that "an unexpected error occurred."
